Sangeetha Punniyamoorthy is a partner at DLA Piper (Canada) LLP where she specializes in intellectual property and technology law. She is dedicated to assisting businesses with capturing and protecting intellectual property rights. Sangeetha has over a decade of experience litigating copyright, patent, and trademark matters, and also provides strategic advice in the procurement and enforcement of global brands in a variety of industries. She has appeared as counsel in two appeals before the Supreme Court of Canada, as well as in matters before the Federal Court, the Ontario Courts, the Trademarks Opposition Board, and the Competition Tribunal.
Sangeetha has been described by World Trademark Review 2017 as an “exceptional” lawyer for her litigation and enforcement work, and ranked as a leading lawyer by World Intellectual Property Review 2017. Sangeetha has also been commended as a Leading IP Lawyer to Watch by Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory 2017. She is presently Chair of the Ontario Bar Association IP-IT Section, serves on the Canada Amicus committee of the International Trademarks Association, and is a Fellow of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 2004, and has her J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School and a B.Sc. from the University of Toronto.
Sangeetha serves on the Board of Directors of Girls Inc. of York Region and sits on the Advisory Board for the Canadian Tamil Professionals Association.
