A graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School and called to the Ontario Bar in 1994, Kara has 23 years' experience as a lawyer, in both the public and private sectors, specializing in entertainment law and providing legal, business and regulatory advice to senior executives and producers on a broad range of business issues, commercial agreements, and regulatory and compliance matters. Kara began her career in the entertainment industry at Alliance Communications Inc. in the mid-nineties. She then joined Telefilm Canada as legal counsel and senior investment analyst in the Toronto feature film unit. Following Telefilm, she worked as an associate at Hall Webber LLP, a distinguished boutique entertainment law firm, before establishing Kara Russell Law. Most recently, Kara has worked in the Business Law Group at CBC and Business & Legal Affairs Director for Frantic Films. In 2016, Kara was appointed Business & Legal Affairs Director of Bristow Global Media, a Toronto-based content creation company specializing in multi-platform content across all genres including scripted, lifestyle, reality, documentary and sports. Founded by television industry veteran, Julie Bristow, Bristow Global Media recently produced the 10-part docu-drama series “Canada: The Story of Us”, which will air in 2017 as part of the original programming CBC commissioned to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary. Kara has served as Board Member of Women in Film & Television (Toronto Branch) in the Executive Committee and Finance Committee. She is also a member of the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers.
